AIP Ceremony for Suezmax Ammonia-Fueled Vessel
Dongsung Finetec announced that it has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from DNV for the fuel tank of Suezmax ammonia-fueled vessels.
This milestone follows an April collaboration between Dongsung Finetec, Daehan Shipbuilding, and PANASIA to develop a Suezmax ammonia-fueled vessel. As part of this partnership, Donsung Finetec developed the vessels’ ammonia fuel tanks, Daehan Shipbuilding led the development of systems complying with eco-friendly fuel regulations, and PANASIA designed the ammonia fueling system.
Dongsung Finetec’s ammonia fuel tank leverages the company’s established expertise in LNG tank solutions, underscoring its commitment to advancing next-generation technologies for storing and using environmentally friendly fuels.
Ammonia has emerged as a promising carbon-neutral alternative in the shipping industry, offering significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels. Its ease of transportation and storage makes it an attractive option for shipowners seeking cleaner fuel alternatives.
“We have been advancing our fuel tank technology to support ammonia-fueled vessels and align with the International Maritime Organization’s environmental regulations,” said a Dongsung Finetec official. “Securing this AIP gives us a significant competitive edge in the growing ammonia-fueled vessel market.”
Dongsung Finetec plans to build on this achievement to meet the rising global demand for carbon-free shipping solutions, particularly ammonia-fueled vessels.
